Brian Eno Urges Support to Propel Palestinian Solidarity Song to UK Holiday Chart Peak.

A campaign is aiming to launch a traditional song from Palestine to the Christmas number one spot. The campaign hopes to send support to communities in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian culture and creativity.

A Chance for Solidarity and an "Chart Upset"

Composer and producer Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a moment to stand with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He noted the potential for an unexpected chart success.

“It would be fantastic if that came to pass, yes,” he commented. “I wouldn't be completely disappointed if it doesn't manage to, holiday tracks are a thing unto themselves.”

Resilient Spirit of Freedom and Dignity

Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the adaptation of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's powerful central theme.

“It occupies a deeply meaningful spot for a lot of people,” Barghouti explained. “It’s basically saying that I would rather die in dignity than live a life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we desire to exist a life of dignity that we deserve as Palestinians.”

Production History and Contributing Musicians

The track was produced after a solidarity show held in September. Initially planned to be performed and recorded live, the performance was cut from the show due to the event running long.

The notable list of musicians featured on Lullaby features a group of acclaimed names from the industry. All were part of the earlier concert, which successfully generated a substantial amount for relief efforts.

Creation and Launch

Lullaby was crafted by a group of producers and composers. The single features a combination of the traditional Arabic lyrics with contemporary English verses.

The team running the campaign have clarified that their objective is to raise as much as possible for a dedicated fund. These donations will be channeled to Palestinian causes through an partnering humanitarian organization.

“There is no a fixed goal,” a spokesperson said. “We aim for as much as possible. Of course, the greater the amount, the better. It all goes out to the people of Gaza.”

The context in the region was characterized as its profound destruction, with a huge proportion of buildings reportedly in ruins or severely impacted.

“In that context, a couple of million won't make an enormous impact. But I think the significant factor is primarily spreading knowledge of this plight and showing there’s another side to the story.”

The song is launching this Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the solidarity show will be made available for streaming on a digital service from later in the month.
