The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment Wednesday night stating they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver the athlete and had been in communication with the NFL.
The team did not mention Rice by name in their announcement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Social Media
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name the athlete directly, posted a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has kids with Rice, whom the Chiefs selected in the 2023 draft.
No police reports were available in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have taken place.
The receiver was absent for the first six games of this season following an NFL suspension for his involvement in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that left several individuals hurt. He was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
Statistically, he concluded the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
