Nintendo and Illumination shared the first full-length trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie midweek. The reveal happened in a Nintendo-focused broadcast that centered on the forthcoming animated feature.
The follow-up to the 2023 hit film The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this new installment will send Mario to the outer limits of the universe. Along the way, he discovers a fresh princess character and a formidable new rival in Bowser Jr., the son of the King of the Koopas.
Similar to the games from the Wii period that serve as its inspiration, Mario will venture away from the cozy environment of the Mushroom Kingdom to explore outer space. On his epic voyage, he will meet again some familiar faces, for instance the Luma, a breakout star from the original cinematic release.
But it appears Mario and his brother Luigi will battle a different foe in the form of Bowser's furious offspring, who reportedly utilizes powers related to metal. Notably, the teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not solely focused on visuals from the Galaxy games; it also contains hints to additional popular titles like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
The film will feature once again of the original voice cast, with Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
New additions to the ensemble for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will voice Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to play Bowser Jr. It was announced by Chris Meledandri, the chief executive of Illumination.
Mario's latest cinematic adventure is scheduled to arrive near the four-decade milestone of the initial Super Mario Bros. release. Apart from the cinematic release, 2026 is shaping up to be a important time for Mario and his companions.
The company has a set of three fresh titles officially announced for that year, featuring Mario Tennis Fever, a version for Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a fresh Yoshi side-scroller titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is scheduled to hit theaters on April 3, 2026.
