The Showrunner Discloses He Has a Plan for How His Sci-Fi Series Will Conclude... Currently.

The acclaimed writer-producer did not foresee that Pluribus would emerge as a massive hit. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “I did not foresee the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

As the debut season of the acclaimed program coming to an end—and a second season already in development—the writers' room opened up about the viewer reception and whether it will shape the future direction of Pluribus.

On the Incredible Viewer Reception

It would be easy to get distracted by the widespread acclaim and audience predictions regarding Pluribus. He is doing his best to ignore the noise.

“It feels like an endless supply of your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he explains. “It's wonderful, but I get wind of it from others, and that's by design. Not once have I searched for my own name online, nor do I ever plan to. It's quite the opposite. It's a deep trap I know I would fall into and then I'd be living in squalor from the hardware store and I'd never leave my living room.”

In spite of his concerted efforts, there’s no way to avoid the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The most practical strategy is to take it in stride and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We make no attempt to tailor anything,” says Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not influenced by online forums.”

“We prefer to keep our heads down and working,” he chimes in.

The Central Mystery: Will the showrunner See the Finale of Pluribus?

Given that the writers are not listening by audience theories, can we assume they have already decided how Pluribus will ultimately end? Essentially yes… sort of.

“We have some potential directions about where the show might end up,” he states. “but we are always ready to throw out a solid concept for a more brilliant plan. That has held us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we conceive of something superior and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

Then again, if all else fails, Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to serve as a last resort.

“I keep pitching that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and that's where they've been all along,” Smith jokes, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Then again, one could always use the legendary finales?

“My dream is Carol to open her eyes next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV+.
